Maybe you have wondered where the name of Venezuela comes from. In the picture to the right, you can see houses over the water, in the Sinamaica lagoon (Zulia state), close to Maracaibo. When the first explorers arrived, those houses reminded them Venice. Then, they called the region "Little Venice", which in Spanish was Venezuela.
