EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES 2014

A day to celebrate languages and language learning.

What better way to represent Europe’s rich heritage of languages than by encouraging people to initiate conversations with speakers of the many different languages spoken around the continent?
The "Talk to Me" slogan has been used for the Day of Languages since 2003 when a set of stickers in 41 official languages of the Council of  Europe's member states were first launched.
To test out your recognition of Europe's different languages why not try out our Talk to me game?
The slogan has also formed the basis of a video clip developed by the Norwegian authorities which was played at cinemas around the country.

2012 US ELECTIONS

Dear students, with the election less than one day away, US citizens may have had enough of the red-versus-blue battle.  It's impossible to watch the news without hearing the candidates  discussing over foreign policy, taxes, and what's hidden in their folders.  Nonpartisan reminders to vote vanish into the background, and that's why  a group of students at Harlem Prep Charter School in New York are reminding them to do their civic duty and vote in the presidential election on November 6.   Their song 'Vote for Somebody' is sung to the tune of Carly Rae Jepsen's viral hit Call Me Maybe.
.
YOUR "SCHOOL DUTIES"

  • FIRST, YOU NEED TO LEARN SOME WORDS BEFORE. Don't panic, here is the key.
  • SECOND, YOU SHOULD GET FAMILIAR WITH THE HISTORY OF "US VOTING".
  • THIRD, WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME THE NEW US PRESIDENT? Jusclick here and learn.

    EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES

Dear students, welcome to my blog one year more.  This time, we are going to reflect
about the European multilingualism, that is why I have chosen  26th September as my re-opening day.  The European Day of Languages celebrates plurilingualism and encourages the 800 million Europeans in the Council of Europe's 47 member states to learn more languages; it has been celebrated every year since 2001 on 26 September, as an initiative of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Our task will be very easy, just follow the next steps:
    1. Go to Google and search for worldmaps of Spanish/English/French/Portuguese speaking countries.
    2. Copy and paste them on an A3 sheet, labelling each language- do it as nice as possible, please!
    3. Finally, select one country and find a remarkable person, historical fact and typical food.(and tell us!)
    Enjoy your E.D.L!
